About

North Atlantic Tax explores the messy space where UK and US tax systems meet — the forms, the policy gaps, and the practical problems that real people face when they live, work, or invest on both sides of the ocean.

The site is written by Rob Meredith , a UK-qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and soon-to-be IRS Enrolled Agent (EA).
After years of working with expats, small businesses, and advisers in both countries, I wanted a place to unpack cross-border rules without the jargon, sales pitch, or scaremongering.

Here you’ll find:

  • Plain-English breakdowns of complex US–UK issues — forms like 5471, 3520, 8621, foreign-currency gains, and UK reporting quirks.
  • Commentary on tax policy, compliance trends, and how governments actually enforce these rules.
  • Curated links to credible news and research worth reading.

No advice — just clarity.
Nothing here is personalised tax advice; it’s information, analysis, and opinion.
If a post helps you ask better questions of your own adviser, it’s done its job.
